The winter skincare guide

Winter_Skin_Guide.jpg

Winter wreaks havoc on every skin type. If you’re dry, you’re about to get drier. If you’re oily, your skin will produce more oil in an effort to stay properly hydrated. Worse yet, your skin’s protective barrier breaks down in the winter, which means that oil stands a better chance of turning into a breakout.

All of that is, of course, only the case when not equipped with the right regimen and strategy. Here’s a breakdown on how to winterize your skin.

The breakdown
  • 01
    Maximize your moisturizer

Cold air and indoor heating are your skin’s worst nightmare. Apply an ingredient-rich serum before your moisturizer to give your skin the extra hydration it needs. Ceramides, Hyaluronic Acid, and Squalane are the high-performers to look for here.

  • 02
    Use a gentler cleanser

Avoid products with sulfates and highly exfoliating ingredients like salicylic acid that can further dry out your skin. And please ditch the damn bar soap, it’s full of detergents that’ll leave your skin drier than the desert.

  • 03
    Limit hot showers

Hot showers rob your skin of the natural oils it uses to stay hydrated. Keep it warm (or lukewarm) and make it quick.
